Some Ideas, Inc., its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, "The Backlot," "we," "us," or "our") operates The Backlot mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services"), which allow users to create and share movie reviews that can appear on friends' phone home screens (for example, via widgets) and connect with people they may know.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how we collect, use, share, and safeguard Personal Data collected through or in connection with the Services. It also explains your rights and choices regarding your Personal Data and how to contact us with questions or requests. Some features may be limited or unavailable in certain regions to comply with local laws.
Personal Data we collect
We collect Personal Data about you from the sources described below. In this Policy, "Personal Data" means information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual, and does not include data that has been de-identified or aggregated such that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
Personal Data you provide to us
- •Account information: When you create an account, we may collect information such as your phone number, email address, name, username, and (if provided) birthday or age confirmation.
- •Profile information: Such as a profile photo, display name, bio, or other information you add to your profile.
- •Friends and connections: If you choose to add friends, follow others, or invite contacts, we may collect identifiers associated with those connections (for example, usernames, phone numbers, or email addresses you provide).
- •Contact list (optional): With your permission, we may access your device contacts (such as saved names and phone numbers) to help you find and connect with people you know and to make inviting friends easier. You can withdraw this permission at any time through your device settings.
- •Content you create and share: When you use the Services, you may provide content such as movie reviews, ratings, reactions, comments, lists, captions, links, screenshots you upload, and associated metadata (for example, time of posting, content language, and device/app context).
- •Messages: If the Services include direct messages or in-app messaging, we collect the content of messages you send and receive and related metadata.
- •Correspondence: If you contact us (for support or otherwise), we collect your contact details and the content of your communications.
- •Payment information (if applicable): If you purchase subscriptions or other paid features, our payment processor(s) will collect the information needed to process your payment (such as billing details and payment card information). We typically do not receive your full payment card number and do not store complete payment card details.
Where you provide us with Personal Data of third parties (for example, if you upload or sync contacts), it is your responsibility to ensure you have the right to provide that information and to inform those individuals as required by applicable law.
Information collected via automated means
- •Device data: We may collect information about your device and connection, such as operating system type and version, device manufacturer and model, device identifiers, language settings, mobile carrier, IP address, and network information (e.g., Wi-Fi/LTE).
- •Usage data: We may collect information about how you use the Services, such as features you use, pages/screens viewed, interactions (likes, taps, shares), search queries, crash logs, performance data, and the dates/times and duration of activities.
- •Approximate location: We may infer a general location (such as city/state/region) from your IP address for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and localization.
- •Advertising/measurement identifiers (if applicable): We and our partners may collect advertising identifiers (such as IDFA on iOS or AAID on Android) and event data for analytics and advertising measurement, subject to your device settings and consent where required.
Information we receive from third parties
- •Social media and third-party logins (if you enable them): If you choose to connect a third-party account, we may receive information from that provider (such as your name, username, or email) depending on your settings with that provider.
- •App stores and platforms: We may receive information from Apple/Google and other platforms in connection with app downloads, subscriptions, and enforcement of platform policies.
- •Service providers: We may receive information from vendors we use for analytics, crash reporting, customer support, payments, hosting, content delivery, or security.
How we use your Personal Data
We use your Personal Data for the purposes described below:
- •To provide and operate the Services: To create and manage your account, enable you to post and share reviews, deliver widget/home-screen experiences, and enable social features such as friends, reactions, comments, and notifications.
- •To personalize your experience: For example, to recommend content, refine your feed, or show you relevant movies, friends, or prompts based on your activity and settings.
- •To help you find and connect with people you may know (optional): If you consent to contact syncing, we use contact information to suggest connections and facilitate invitations. You can withdraw consent at any time via device settings.
- •To communicate with you: To send service messages, security alerts, and administrative notifications, and (where permitted) to send product updates and promotional communications.
- •To provide support: To respond to inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and resolve complaints.
- •To improve, test, and secure the Services: To conduct analytics, debug, monitor performance, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our terms, and protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
- •To comply with legal obligations and enforce rights: Including responding to lawful requests and maintaining records where required.
- •For aggregation and anonymization: To create de-identified or aggregated data for analytics, product improvement, and reporting.
Where required by law, we will process Personal Data based on your consent, and you may withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal). Where we rely on legitimate interests, we do so only where those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
If you choose not to provide certain Personal Data, some features may not function (for example, you may not be able to create an account, connect with friends, or post/share content).
How we disclose your Personal Data
We may disclose Personal Data in the following circumstances:
- •Other users and social sharing: Content you post and share (such as reviews, ratings, and comments) will be visible to the people you share with (for example, friends) and may appear on their devices (including home screens/widgets) depending on your settings.
- •Service providers: We share Personal Data with vendors that help us operate the Services (such as hosting, analytics, crash reporting, customer support, content moderation tools, and payment processing). These providers may access or process Personal Data to perform services on our behalf.
- •Affiliates: We may share information with our affiliates and subsidiaries for purposes consistent with this Policy.
- •Advertising partners (if applicable): If we show ads or measure advertising performance, we may share certain information (such as device identifiers, IP address, and event data) with advertising and measurement partners, subject to your choices and applicable law.
- •Advisors: We may disclose information to professional advisors (such as lawyers, accountants, and auditors).
- •Legal and safety: We may disclose information to law enforcement, regulators, or others if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or security issues, or enforce our terms.
- •Business transactions: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, Personal Data may be transferred as part of that transaction, including during due diligence.
Important note about shared content: When you share a review to someone's device/home screen, they may be able to save it, screenshot it, or otherwise retain it. Depending on how widgets and device caching work, content may persist for a period of time even if you delete it from your account. Please be mindful of what you choose to share.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live and how you use the Services, you may have certain rights and choices:
- 1. Opt out of marketing communications: You can opt out of promotional emails by following unsubscribe instructions or contacting us. You may still receive non-marketing service messages.

Children's privacy
The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us Personal Data, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
Retention of Personal Data
We retain Personal Data only for as long as necessary to provide the Services and fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (for example, for legal compliance, dispute resolution, and enforcement). In determining retention, we consider the nature and sensitivity of the data, the risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, and applicable legal requirements.
